Botero’s voluptuous bodies take centre stage in Bogotá

Acclaimed Colombian artist Fernando Botero donated 123 of his own works and 85 pieces by international artists to the Banco de la República (Bank of the Republic) collection in 2000 and the Botero Museum launched later that year. The colonial mansion housing the world-class collection is located in La Candelaria, a vibrant neighbourhood in Bogotá’s historic centre.

The western wing of the museum features works by Botero himself, including paintings, drawings and sculptures. The eastern wing showcases work by international artists such as Corot, Léger, Renoir, Monet, Dalí, Giacometti, Beckmann, Freud, Calder, Bacon, and Barceló. As such, the Botero Museum stands among the five most important international public art collections in Latin America and is well worth a visit!
