Olafur Eliasson, We have never been disembodied installation view, Mirrored Gardens, Guangzhou, China

We have never been disembodied at Mirrored Gardens, Guangzhou, China. 12 March - 12 July 2015.

The exhibition showcases 13 site-specific installations and sculptures by Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson (b. Copenhagen, Denmark, 1967). A shrine-like room filled with artificial yellow light feeds the soul and a crystal ball on a plank of wood amplifies time.

The venue, an environmentally-friendly farm-cum-art space, was founded by experimental art institution Vitamin Creative Space in January 2015. Four inter-connected farmhouses are built on raised wooden platforms to minimise their impact on the environment and respect the natural waterway.

Prior to the exhibition, Eliasson visited the site and was inspired by the contradiction between rampant urban development and a growing desire to nurture spiritual well-being. Consequently, the project was initiated in a bid to rediscover the lost bond between humans and nature.
