ART OF THE WEEK

30 June - 6 July 2014

Caudal (Flow) by Daniel Canogar (b. Madrid, Spain, 1964) forms part of the Fundación Once 5th Biennial of Contemporary Art at CentroCentro Cibeles, Madrid, Spain (20 May - 14 September).

The installation comprises a circuit of used toilet bowls, sinks and bathtubs. Water runs gently from piece to piece whilst human figures are projected into the fountainous water flows. In the context of the biennial, which focuses on disabilities - including mental illness - the piece brilliantly reflects upon the idea of 'sink or swim'. As the diminutive human bodies are washed down the drains, their emotional despair becomes as clear as water itself.
