Touching the sky by Kaarina Kaikkonen (b. Lisalmi, Finland, 1952) is on view at CentroCentro, Madrid (19 February - 14 September 2014).

Stretching from the ground floor foyer to the building's fourth floor, the vast site-specific work transcends the disciplinary boundaries between installation, sculpture and architecture. The use of recycled everyday objects (secondhand clothing) points to the frailty and impermanence of materials, somehow reminding the viewer of humankind's own frailty.

The clothes forming part of the work were collected in collaboration with the Humana NGO, whose goal is to develop cooperation projects promoting community development in Africa, Asia and South America. To support these projects, Humana collects, sorts, distributes and sells unwanted clothing.
