Paris Photo brings together 136 French
and international galleries as well as 28 photography book publishers at the Grand Palais in Paris's 8th
arrondissement. The 17th edition of the world's leading photography fair is held from 14-17 November.
This year’s programme
includes Recent Acquisitions, an
exhibition showcasing new photography collections from three international institutions: the lnstituto Moreira Salles in Rio de Janeiro, the Art
Gallery of Ontario in Toronto and Museum Folkwang in Essen.
The Private Collection
exhibition features photographic works from the collection of Harald Falckenberg, one of Germany’s leading contemporary art collectors. It includes works by Richard Prince,
Walid Raad and Walker Evans, among many other internationally renowned artists.
Nicolas Bourriaud, director of the École Nationale Supérieure
des Beaux-Arts de Paris and curator and art critic Chantal Pontbriand lead four days of conversations as part of the Paris Photo Platform.
The themes discussed are 'Photography Challenged by the World’, ’Encyclopedic
Fantasy’ and ‘Photography and Painting, Limits?’.
Paris Photo also joins
forces with the Aperture Foundation for the 2013 Paris
Photo-Aperture Foundation Photobook Awards. The winners
of the competition's two categories, 'First PhotoBook' and 'PhotoBook of the Year',
will be revealed on 15 November.
Curated by Martin Parr, the Open
Book exhibition explores the ‘protest’ photobook and features images of uprisings from the second half of the 20th century to current times.
