ART OF THE WEEK

28 October - 3 November

Ryoji Ikeda (b. Gifu, Japan, 1966) has developed data.path, an installation comprising a 20m long tunnel whose walls are formed of two massive video screens. Whilst moving through the tunnel, the viewer is bombarded with a dizzying sequence of projected images in sync with audio. The work is a reinterpretation of datamatics (2006 - ), Ikeda's acclaimed audiovisual concert, whereby he explores the human potential to perceive the infinite and invisible information that permeates the world in the form of data of all types. Using this data - computer codes, astronomical coordinates, molecular structures, 3D spatial visions - as a single resource, Ikeda achieves a breathtaking succession of images and computer-generated sounds that challenge our senses and ability to perceive and process everything that surrounds us.

The work can be experienced at Espacio Fundación Telefónica, Madrid, Spain. 28 September 2013 - 5 January 2014
