Thomas Hirschhorn’s Gramsci Monument

Dedicated to the Italian political
theorist Antonio Gramsci (b. 1891 – d. 1937), Gramsci Monument (2013) by Swiss artist Thomas Hirschhorn (b. 1957)
is a different type of monument. Constructed by residents of Forest Houses in
the New York City borough of the Bronx, the artwork takes the form of an
outdoor structure hosting various pavilions. An event-filled work, it provokes social
encounters.
